Tenacious lawyers take out rally.

Farah Awan

ISLAMABAD: Lawyers continued with their boycott of court proceedings, observed a full-day strike and took out a rally in the court's compound.

They vowed to continue their struggle till the restoration of real democracy in the country and reinstatement of the deposed chief justice of Pakistan and other judges. Former Islamabad Bar Association General Secretary Tayyab Khan told The Post that most of the local lawyers had gone to join the rally to be addressed by Supreme Bar Association President Aitzaz Ahsan in Abbottabad. He said they would not compromise on principles and have the deposed chief justice reinstated at all costs.

Former president Aleem Abbasi said, "We will take a rally to the residence of the deposed CJP. We demand the government allow the deposed chief justice's relatives to meet him on Eid Milad-un-Nabi. Although we don't want to create hurdles to working of the new parliament, we will continue our protest."

Meanwhile, hearings on many cases remained suspended in the district courts because of the lawyers' strike against the government and litigants faced a lot of inconvenience.
