CJ not to address any bar, rally for 30 days: Aitzaz.

Demands probe into Justice Ramday incident

SUKKUR: The deposed chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry will not address any bar association for the next 30 days. President Supreme Court Bar Association Atizaz Ahsan said this in response to a request made by the federal law minister Farooq H Naik.

Talking to reporters at the Sukkur Airport, the law minister underlined that legal confusion had been raised regarding the restoration of the deposed judges but it would be soon resolved. The lawyers must show patience, he added. The government is trying to extract some way through parliament, which should protect the rights of the judges in future, Naik said and vowed that all promises regarding restoration of the judiciary would be fulfilled.

Atizaz Ahsan said: “The countdown for the reinstatement of the deposed judges has started. We hope that the government will reinstate all the deposed judges within 30 days and not compel us to begin a long-march.” —Online

Our Sukkur correspondent adds: President Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Aitzaz Ahsan on Thursday said that the lawyers of the country would continue their struggle for the restoration of the judiciary, including the reinstatement of deposed chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.

He hoped the Murree Declaration would be fulfilled in its letter and spirit. Talking to journalists at Sukkur, Aitzaz said both the prime minister and the law minister of the country had given assurances on the issue that the matter would be resolved within the next 90 days through parliament.

He said the legal fraternity of Pakistan trusts the political parties, which supported their campaign, adding he hoped they would not deviate from the commitment they had made with the people of Pakistan. He said he had decided to contest the by-election and his party would provide him with such an opportunity.

Aitzaz said the chief justice had called on Asif Zardari only to offer condolence on the sad demise of Benazir Bhutto but the Musharraf camp had exploited the meeting. Aitzaz said Asif Ali Zardari had visited the 90 to win the MQM’s support for the restoration of judiciary and real democracy and for the supremacy of parliament.

Aitzaz said after the assurance of Prime Minster Yusuf Raza Gillani that the judiciary would be restored, the deposed chief justice had decided not to address any bar or other crowds. He demanded probe into the Justice Ramday incident and demanded the report should be made public.

The SCBA president said that one dictator had hijacked the entire nation, including the supreme institutions of the country, and now when the people of Pakistan had rejected him and his policies, he was hatching conspiracies against the popular government. He termed Musharraf a security risk and suggested his immediate dissociation from the state organs and the power he had been enjoying for the last one decade.
