CJ’s rally accorded rousing welcome in Rawalpindi.

Rawalpindi: Thousands of lawyers, leaders and workers of different political parties, civil society members and students on Monday accorded a rousing welcome to deposed chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry when his rally reached Rawalpindi city on the occasion of black day.

Lawyers were raising slogans of “Go Zardari Go” and “Chief Zindabad” on the occasion. Hundreds of people were standing along the route of the rally from the Airport Road to the District Courts, Rawalpindi to welcome the deposed CJ. They showered rose petals on his car.

As the deposed CJ reached the District Courts, lawyers and civil society members started dancing and showered rose petals on him. Dozens of people, including men, women and children, approached him and prayed for his reinstatement to get justice in their cases.Children offered flowers to the deposed chief justice when he reached the District Courts.

After a brief speech, his caravan left for Islamabad. He was leading the caravan while other lawyer leaders, including Supreme Court Bar Association President Ali Ahmed Kurd, Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan, Munir A Malik, Hamid Khan, Justice Tariq Mehmood and political leaders Hanif Abbasi, Raja Zafar-ul-Haq, Ghaus Ali Shah, Malik Ibrar, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and others were boarding on a another vehicle.

More than 60 wagons and buses passed through the Benazir Bhutto Road. People in the city accorded welcome to the caravan — some were seen clapping and dancing while some remained busy in showering rose petals on the CJ, who was waiving to them. Many locals were also seen standing on rooftops of their houses to watch the caravan.

Some children also sought autographs from the deposed chief justice at some points, including Liaquat Bagh and Mareer Hassan.Young lawyers went to Islamabad dancing on the beat of drums throughout the way.

The locals of Rawalpindi city also offered sweets and drinking water to the participants of the caravan at different points.Famous lawyer leaders Ali Ahmed Kurd and Aitzaz Ahsan used loudspeaker to thank people for according historic welcome to the rally participants.

Lawyers and civil society members were wearing black bands on arms and heads to observe black day.Security agencies and police officials did not allow civil society members and supporters of political parties to enter the District Courts, Rawalpindi. A security squad was escorting the car of the deposed chief justice when he was passing through the Benazir Bhutto Road.
