Independent judiciary inevitable for good governance: CJ.

SIALKOT: Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has urged the lawyers and civil societies to struggle to materialise dreams of prominent leaders of Muslims of Sub-Continent Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal and Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

Addressing to Sialkot Bar Association here, the Deposed Chief Justice has said with confidence that every child of the country would stand by lawyer’s movement to achieve Iqbal and Jinnah’s dream and hoped that the movement would be succeeded soon.

Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has emphasised that the establishment of independent judiciary is inevitable as without independent judiciary and rule of law, good governance is impossible in the country.

The Deposed Chief Justice said that that independent judiciary is demand of constitution of Pakistan, adding the tragedy of 1971 was occurred due to the exploitation of the constitution. He said that the now the people of Pakistan are well aware of the importance of the independence judiciary and their massive participation in lawyer’s gatherings reflect this.

Commenting on role of judiciary in the past, the deposed Chief Justice said that the judiciary supported dictators when they broke the constitution. The convention is being held on November 9, they day when greatest philosopher of Pakistan Allama Iqbal was born, he added.

At the end of his address, the deposed Chief Justice congratulated Sialkot Bar for making the convention successful and urged lawyers to maintain unity among their ranks as it is vital for success of their movement.

President Supreme Bar Association Ali Ahmed Kurd, Chaudhry Atizaz Ahmed, Munir A Malik and other lawyers accompanied Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on the occasion.
