ISLAMABAD: The top leadership of the lawyers’ movement is planning to accompany the chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to US where he is invited to receive the Harvard Law School’s Medal of Freedom.
In this regard, Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan left for the US Sunday morning to look after arrangements.
Islamabad District Bar Association (IDBA) President Haroonur Rasheed and Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA), Rawalpindi Bench, President Sardar Asmatullah Khan would apply for visas on Monday (today) to accompany the CJP.
According to Rasheed, Iftikhar would leave for US on Nov 16 via Dubai. Haroon said that Harvard Law School was one of the world’s most prestigious legal institutions and its “Medal of Freedom” award was given to selected personalities for their contributions to freedom, justice, and equality.
Former South African President Nelson Mandela is one of the recipients of this award. The award is given to lawyers who value freedom and the rule of law.
