LAHORE: A general house meeting of the Lahore High Court Bar Association was held here at the Kiyani Hall of the Lahore High Court.
Speaking on the occasion lawyers paid tribute to the sacrifices of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry for the cause of independence of judiciary. They said Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry buried the doctrine of necessity forever by refusing to resign on the dictation of military regime.
Anwar Kamal, LHCBA Vice President Mian Muhammad Aslam, Secretary Rana Asad Ullah Khan, Finance Secretary Syeda Feroza Rubab, ex-LHCBA president Hafiz Abdur Rehman Insari, Aftab Sherazi, Dr Khalid Javed Jan, ex-LHCBA President Ahmed Awais, Khadim Hussain Qaiser, Sarfraz Cheema and a large number of lawyers attended the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, Hafiz Abdur Rehman Insari said that the legal community and the civil society of Pakistan were observing Black Flag Week to commemorate the sacrifices rendered by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and his colleagues for the cause of independence of Judiciary and rule of Law.
He said chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Iftikhar wrote a history of judicial independence by refusing to resign on the direction of a military dictator. Mr Chaudhry buried the doctrine of necessity which continued to cripple the independence and dignity of the Judiciary.
Anwar Kamal said the Murree accord signed By PPP and PML-N is commendable and both of the political parties should be congratulated on this historic achievement.
He urged the legal community to keep unity in their ranks and strive for the reinstatement of deposed judges because without restoration of November 2 judiciary rule of law and democracy could not be established in country.
Ahmed Awais said the March 9, 2008 reminded of the historic day of March 9, 2007 when chief Justice said no to a military ruler and stood for the independence of Judiciary.
Later, lawyers along with Ali Ahmed Kurd joined rally on the Mall and offered funeral prayers for the victims of the Tuesday's suicide blasts.
