RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi District Bar Association (RDBA) on Monday decided to observe ‘Black Flag Week’ from March 9 to 16 on the call of Supreme Court Bar Association President Aitzaz Ahsan. The decision was taken in an RDBA general body meeting.
During the week the members of the bar would hoist black flags on their houses, bar association campus and wear black armbands. Every day at 12 o’clock, the lawyers would hold protest rallies at Kutchery Chowk and non-political personalities would be invited for address. The lawyers would also paste stickers of deposed chief justice on their cars.
The meeting welcomed the release of Atizaz Ahsan and demanded release of deposed judges.
It said the lawyers’ movement was for supremacy of judiciary and restoration of a genuine democracy in the country and pledged to boycott the courts of PCO judges. The SCBA former vice-president, Chaudhry Ikram, said that people were aware of their rights and they had given their verdict on restoration of judges in the feburary 18 polls. The RDBA vice-president, Farhad Iqbal Khattak, linked the victory of political leaders with lawyers’ movement.
