LAHORE: Sacked chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry received a warm reception upon his arrival at Multan airport on Friday.
According to Geo News, a large group of lawyers, political parties’ workers and members of civil society reached the airport to receive Chaudhry. However, when they tried to go inside the airport building, police stopped them. A group of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) workers had to be restrained with a mild baton-charge when they created a security problem, APP reported, adding that none were injured in the incident.
PML-N leader Makhdoom Javed Hashmi received the sacked CJ at the VIP lounge of the airport, Online reported. At the occasion, Hashmi told media that the Pakistani masses wanted freedom of judiciary, adding that it would guarantee justice for the masses, curbs on inflation and respite in the current volatile situation.
According to Geo, Chaudhry was given the official protocol of a chief justice upon his arrival at Multan. It said that the former CJ’s caravan took several hours to reach SP Chowk, where he addressed a gathering that was also attended by Supreme Court Bar Association President Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan, Ali Ahmad Kurd and other leaders of the lawyer community.
