MULTAN: Representatives of lawyers, political parties, civil society and businessmen Wednesday decided to stage a sit-in at Chowk Kumharanwala on Thursday (today) and block traffic for two hours from 12:00 noon to 02:00 pm in order to press the government for the reinstatement of all deposed judges, including Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
A joint meeting of the lawyers, representatives of civil society, shopkeepers, political parties and social organisations was held Wednesday in the bar hall of District Bar Association (DBA) with Mahmood Ashraf Khan, president High Court Bar Association (HCBA) Multan, in the chair.
The meeting was attended among others by Allah Nawaz Durrani, Tariq Rashid, Bilal Butt, Tariq Naeemullah, Qurban Fatima, Sultana Shaheen of PML-Nr Younus Ghazi and Maj (retd) Mujeeb-ur-Rehman of PTI, Allama Inayatullah Rehrnani of JAH, Intizar Hussain Qureshi of United Muslims Movement, Khalid Mahmood Qureshi, president Small Traders Chamber Multan and Khalid Javed Sanghera divisional president APCA.
It was decided at the meeting to stage sit-in Thursday for two hours on LMQ Road at Chowk Kumharanwala which will start at 12:00 noon and continue till 02:00 pm. The traffic on the main road would be blocked and the traders and shopkeepers would observe a complete shutdown for two hours.
Addressing the meeting Mahmood Ashraf Khan, Naveed Rana, general secretary of HCBA, Iqbal Mehdi Zaidi, acting president and Ashraf AH Sindhu, general secretary of Multan DBA strongly condemned the government for using delaying tactics and its reluctance to reinstate all judges.
The office-bearers of the lawyers vowed that the black coats would continue their struggle till the reinstatement of all judges. They demanded of the government and PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari to immediately reinstate Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
Meanwhile, the lawyers would observe a complete strike and boycott courts proceedings on Thursday to protest against the government's reluctance to reinstate all judges.
BZU announces MA Islamic Studies result: Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) has announced the result of MA Islamic Studies Part-1 (Annual System) 1st Annual Examination, 2007 held in January-February-2008.
According to the result notification issued here, a total number of 2,476 candidates appeared in the examination and out of them 1,654 were declared successful with pass percentage of 67.13. A total number of 1,692 female candidates appeared in the examination and 1,252 were declared pass and the success rate remained 74.39 percent.
