Islamabad: Lawyers affiliated with the Islamabad Bar Association boycotted court proceedings and staged a rally for restoration of all deposed judges here on Thursday.
During the protest, lawyers staged a sit-in on Jauhar Road and blocked traffic. They shouted anti-government slogans and demanded restoration of all deposed judges, including Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, as per promises made by political parties.
Addressing the gathering, Islamabad Bar Association General Secretary Riasat Ali Azad said that deposed chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry would be restored as the legal fraternity is continuously struggling for the restoration of all deposed judges.
He said that the government should fulfil its promise regarding restoration of the judiciary and give respect to all deposed judges, including Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. “The country’s legal fraternity will continue its struggle till the establishment of a free judiciary in the country,” he added.
Riasat Ali Azad announced that lawyers of Islamabad would gather at the residence of the deposed chief justice on Saturday at 7:30 a.m. to see him off for Hyderabad, where he would address the Maleer Bar Association.
