PESHAWAR: Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry is scheduled to address the lawyer community on the Peshawar High Court (PHC) premises here today (Wednesday).
Peshawar High Court Bar Association (PHCBA) Secretary-General Muhammad Isa Khan told reporters that arrangements had been finalised to accord a rousing welcome to Justice Chaudhry. He said that in addition to the NWFP government’s security, the PHCBA security committee had been formed comprising of young lawyers for security of the stage and high court premises.
Isa said the chief justice’s convoy would reach Peshawar at 1 p.m. via motorway. Thousands of lawyers, activists of the civil society organisations and workers of political parties will accord a warm welcome to the deposed chief justice at the Peshawar Motorway Interchange, he said.
Isa said leaders of all opposition political parties in NWFP, including the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Jamaat-e-Islami and Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) had assured full support to the lawyers and pledged to carry out thousands of workers for extending a warm welcome to the deposed chief justice’s convoy.
He said the deposed chief justice, after administering oath to various newly elected bodies of lawyers in the province, would address the convention about current judicial status of the country.
The lawyers also took out a car rally to raise awareness about the visit of the deposed chief justice. The rally, which was taken out from the PHC passed through the Cantt area, university road and interior city, urging the masses to extend them help in restoring the “constitutional judges” of the superior courts.
