Dubai: The government should reinstate the deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry to put proper justice system in place otherwise there is a fear of Swat like situation spreading in rest of the country, said Imran Khan, Chief of Tehreek-e-Insaf (Justice Movement) Pakistan."The agreement to enforce Sharia rule in Swat valley was reached after two years of fighting which originally had started for lack of justice system in the valley," Khan noted. He said the whole of Pakistan is suffering because of lack of proper justice system and it cannot prevail until the deposed Chief Justice Chaudhry is restored.
Khan said though the lawyers' long march next month is mainly aimed at reinstatement of Chief Justice Chaudhry and not to destabilise the government, anything could happen -from change in the government to the fresh elections - for the long march would have a huge impact in the Pakistani politics.
"The government will have to reinstate Chief Justice Chaudhry to avoid chaos in the country because people have been deprived of proper justice system," legendary cricketer turned politician Khan told Gulf News.
Khan was in Dubai to attend a function organised by a prominent Pakistani businessman Imran Chaudhry in honour of Sadruddin Hashwani, owner of the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad which was destroyed last year in a suicide bomb attack.
Khan has pledged full support to the lawyers' long march along with other political parties such as Nawaz Sharif's Pakistan Muslim League. Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to rally towards Islamabad on March 12 to demand the government to reinstate the deposed Chief Justice.
"It will be like another 'Pakistan Movement' but this time to save the country from the 'corrupt' government and to get rid of the 'Asif Law' (referring to the existing judicial system) in the country," the outspoken Khan said.
He said that he got offer from President Asif Ali Zardari for negotiations but he plainly refused. "I am told by my friends not to speak harsh against Zardari lest I should be killed but I am not afraid of anything and would continue my struggle for the restoration of 'real' justice system in Pakistan," he said.
"I don't think people abroad have any idea about the resentment people of Pakistan has developed against Zardari for not reinstating the Chief Justice.
He said the participants of the long march would stage a sit-in until the restoration of the chief justice.
Speaking about the agreement between the government and the Taliban group to enforce Sharia rule in Swat and the rest of the Malakand Division, Khan said the government had no choice but to have the deal. "Some 400,000 people have become refugee while the area is suffering because of the biggest economic collapse ever due to the fighting during the last two years," he noted.
"All what people want is peace and speedy justice the whole system in the area had collapsed for there are no courts functions, no police stations, no schools and no economic activity," he added.
