Islamabad: Supreme Court has sought detailed report within a month on smuggling of prohibited goods in the guise of Afghan Transit Trade (ATT) and NATO supply and theft/disappearance of container.
A 3-member bench of SC comprising Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Tariq Parvez and justice Ghulam Rabbani issued these orders during the course of hearing of suo motu case here Thursday.
The court also directed Wafaqi Ombudsman to finalize the investigation and inform the court number of containers and kind of goods supplied through them being dispatched from Karachi to Afghanistan. How many among them reach the destination and how many disappear on their way and how much loss is being caused to national kitty under the cloak of smuggling, court added.
During the hearing renowned journalist Dr Moid Pirzada presented report worked out by former DG Customs Intelligence Lutfullah Work on smuggling through containers.
“Moid Pirzada has taken this step in national interest.
Such allegations against the concerned authorities and departments identify weak management. Investigation be made and facts be ascertained from customs authorities about these weaknesses:”, SC remarked.
