ISLAMABAD: Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed read the 24-page verdict on Wednesday. The Supreme Court has ordered Election Commission to carry out door-to-door verification with army’s assistance for verification of voter lists in Karachi, adding that the assistance of army would help in elimination of criminal elements.
A three-member bench of apex court comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed heard the petitions filed by Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), claiming that around 300,000 votes of people in Karachi were registered outside the city.
Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed read the 24-page verdict on Wednesday.
In its verdict, the court said that the commission can also sought help of Frontier Corps (FC) in this regard.
Meanwhile, the matter will remain sub judice till the verification of electoral lists is completed.
