KARACHI: The paramilitary Rangers and police swooped down on criminals, killing at least nine in shootouts that took place in different parts of the city on the eve of Supreme Court hearing into Karachi law and order implementation case.
A larger bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry will resume hearing at the Karachi registry of the top court here on Wednesday (today).
The Supreme Court had, in its earlier order, asked all the law enforcement agencies to work on one-point agenda of supremacy of law and establishment of government's writ in the port city.
The court had ordered a probe into several issues including Illegal arms, alleged theft of Nato arms containers and business of legal arms.
During the course of marathon hearing into the matter, it was repeatedly noted the aforesaid issues deteriorated the already miserable situation in the city.
