CJP sees no change in judiciary’s working after his retirement.

HYDERABAD: The Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has expressed confidence that there will be no difference after his retirement as the judiciary will continue to deliver justice to the people. Addressing a reception organised by Sindh High Court Bar Association here on Sunday night, the Chief Justice said that the sitting judges in the higher judiciary were dispensing justice to the people and that would continue. “There will be no difference when I leave. All the judges sitting there are heroes,” he said. The Chief Justice said that his six brother judges in the Supreme Court stood by him when Pervez Musharraf imposed emergency on November 3, 2007. “If such judges are still in the apex court, no one can derail the system from the path of rule of law,” he observed.
He said the history would tell how the Supreme Court worked under him when thousands of litigants got relief and the long pending cases were resolved.
“There is not just one but 20,000 cases which reflect this,” he said.
The Chief Justice said the ongoing security operation in Karachi started on the orders of the Supreme Court in its suo moto case.
The Chief Justice also praised the judges of the provincial high court for their upright judgments and timely dispensation of justice.
He recalled that when he was deposed in March 2007, the SHC judges supported him and during a reception in April 2007, 15 justices from the SHC attended the event without fear of the dictator.
He observed that such bravery and support for the rule of law was still evident in the SHC judges.
He said that SHC Chief Justice Maqbool Baqar has passed through testing times but he emerged stronger.
Chief Justice Chaudhry stressed upon the lawyers to continue their
struggle for the rule of law as the bar and the bench were yet to achieve their objectives for the rule of law.
The SHC Chief Justice, Justice Maqbool Baqar, SHCBA’s President Advocate Nisar Durrani and General Secretary Advocate Ayaz Tunio also spoke.
Earlier lawyers representatives presented traditional gifts of Sindhi cap and Ajrak to the judges.
