A Full Court meeting was held today (10.12.2013) in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Islamabad under the chairmanship of the Hon'ble Chief Justice of Pakistan Mr. Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and was attended by Hon'ble Mr. Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk, Hon'ble Mr. Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja, Hon'ble Mr. Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, Hon'ble Mr. Justice Khilji Arif Hussain, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sarmad Jalal Osmany, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Amir Hani Muslim, Hon'ble Mr. Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Gulzar Ahmed, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sh. Azmat Saeed, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rahman and Hon’ble Mr. Justice Mushir Alam. Dr. Faqir Hussain, Registrar, Supreme Court of Pakistan also attended the meeting.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan welcomed the Hon’ble Judges participating in the Full Court meeting. Hon’ble Chief Justice said that the purpose of the meeting is to take stock of the performance of the Supreme Court in terms of dispensation of justice and disposal of cases for redressal of grievances of the litigants. The Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan told the meeting that this would be his last meeting as he is going to lay his robes on 11.12.2013 (tomorrow). The Hon’ble Judges lauded the services rendered by him as Chief Justice of Pakistan for the dispensation of justice, rule of law and supremacy of constitution in society. They eulogized the professional and legal acumen of the Hon’ble Chief Justice and said that they found the Hon’ble Chief Justice a man of strong nerves and principles who never ever compromised over the principle of rule of law, supremacy of constitution and independence of judiciary. He is emblem of constitutionalism. The Hon’ble Judges also appreciated devotion, dedication, determination, steadfastness, selflessness and leadership qualities of the Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry who according to them is a living legend, striving for cause of dispensation of justice for vulnerable and marginalized section of society. They further said that the Hon’ble Chief Justice possesses extra-ordinary visionary qualities. His tenure as Chief Justice of Pakistan will always be remembered as marvelous, momentous and golden period of judiciary in the history of Pakistan and he will long be remembered for his unprecedented judgments. He remained unflinched throughout his career as Judge. Under his leadership, the judiciary emerged as stronger institution of the state and delivered justice without fear or favour. The Hon’ble Chief Justice worked beyond the normal call of duty in order to dispense justice to people. His “No” gave great awareness to society for their rights. His period and services will be cherished in the annals of the history and in the days to come.
The Hon’ble Chief Justice extended his gratitude to Hon’ble Judges and thanked them for standing by him like a rock. He said that due to the cooperation and faithfulness of the Judges, it became possible for him to dispense justice to the people. He said that due to the judgments, judiciary stood separate from executive. Now, no one can dare to have an evil look upon the institution. The secret that kept them united is mutual respect for one another. He further added that honesty and uprightness will always keep them on the same path and said that no one will defeat them if they take stand over principles and the institution will strengthen day by day.
He further said that he is confident and sanguine that Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani posses the qualities to keep the team united. Every Judge is independent and pens down his own judgments independently. At the end, he also appreciated the cooperation, dignity, respect, care and love extended by his brother Judges to him and said that he will remember the moments he spent with the brother Judges on the bench.
The Full Court discussed the institution and disposal of cases during the period from 02.11.2013 to 06.12.2013 at the Principal seat and its Branch Registries and expressed its satisfaction.
