QAISER ZUFLIQAR
ISLAMABAD - Expressing desire to take part in the by-elections President Supreme Court Bar Association Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan Friday said, “If Pakistan Peoples Party grants me ticket in by-elections I would prefer to contest from constituency of National Assembly NA-55 Rawalpindi”.
Earlier after meeting with the deposed Chief Justice at his residence in the morning while talking to media Aitzaz said that the lawyers’ fraternity had no reservations over Murree Declaration and the points of the accord were very clear according to which the deposed judges would be reinstated within thirty days after the formation of the new government.
He said that two giant leader of coalition government, PPP Co- Chairman Asif Ali Zardari and PML-N Qaid Mian Nawaz Sharif signed the Bhurban Declaration with sincerity, adding, “We have no doubts on their sincerity and hope that they would fulfil the promise.”
He said that Benazir Bhutto arrived in the Judges Enclave to meet the deposed Chief Justice when he was under house arrest and vowed that the flag of Pakistan once again would be hoisted at the house of deposed Chief Justice.
Responding to a question, the President SCBA said that Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary was still the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and Parliament through a resolution with simple majority could restore the judges.
The President SCBA said that Parliament did not discuss with us the question of presentation of any resolution in Parliament regarding restoration of the judges; however, we have complete confidence in Parliament.
He said, “Qazi Hussain Ahmed and Sheikh Akram Advocate are our friends and we respect their views.”
Chaudhary Aitzaz Ahsan in reply to a question said that he belonged to Pakistan Peoples Party and there was a strong possibility that he would contest in the by-poll.
Answering a question, Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan said Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary expressed condolence with Zardari on the death of Benazir Bhutto and emphasized not to make that meeting a political issue.
Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary during the meeting, which lasted for 20 to 25 minutes, did not discuss the restoration of the judges, added President SCBA.
