All set to accord warm welcome to CJP.

Karachi: Lawyers’ representatives have announced that component parties of the All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM), rights’ bodies and student organisations will accord a historic welcome to the deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, who is arriving in Karachi on Saturday (tomorrow).

Addressing a press conference, Sindh High Court Bar Association President Rasheed A Razvi, Sindh Bar Council Executive Committee Chairman, Abdul Haleem Siddiqui, and Karachi Bar Association President Mehmoodul Hasan said that the bar council and associations will reach the Karachi airport to welcome the deposed chief justice.

They said that from the airport Iftikhar Chaudhry will go to address the Malir Bar Association and then proceed to Hyderabad for attending the lawyers’ convention there.

They demanded of the government to provide protocol to the deposed chief justice and security to the procession.

The lawyers’ representatives dispelled the impression that the lawyers had abandoned their movement saying that they would continue their struggle till the reinstatement of all deposed judges and restoration of the independent judiciary.

The said that the lawyers were struggling for the rule of law and an independent judiciary and no parliament could not exist without an independent judiciary.

They criticised the government for failing to contain skyrocketing prices of essential commodities and said that only an independent judiciary could help take the country out of the current crises.

The lawyers’ leaders also announced that the lawyers will observe a ‘black day’ against the assassination attempt on the late PPP chairperson on October 18 last year and demanded of the government to arrest the culprits involved in the killing of over 150 people in the Karsaz bomb blasts.
