Comments on a Statement of SriLanka's Chief Justice Sarath Nanda.

Last Day Sri Lanka CJ said that "he would not follow the trend of Pakistan’s former Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and he is not a close friend of Chaudhry".

As a Chief Justice of Sri Lanka, he has no right to discuss matters like this. Chief Justice Sarath Nanda Silva might have not researched well on the Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and Lawyers Movement of Pakistan or might it was a written statement by some one else.

Oct 12, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Chief Justice Sarath Nanda Silva denied reports that he is getting ready to contest a future presidential election as a common candidate.

The Chief Justice in an interview to popular Sinhala language daily Lankadeepa said that he was never interested in politics.

He said that he wanted to commit his life towards religious activities after retirement.

The Chief Justice also said that he would not follow the trend of Pakistan’s former Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and he is not a close friend of Chaudhry.

Rumors are spreading in Sri Lanka that some political elements are trying to make the Chief Justice the common opposition candidate in a future Presidential election.

Sri Lanka Supreme Court has issued several controversial rulings that were highlighted by media and political circles. The Chief Justice emphasized in his interview that the Supreme Court had not given any ruling against law.
