Lawyers observe complete strike in south Punjab.

Demand reinstatement of judges, Greet Justice Iftikhar for getting freedom award
MULTAN: Lawyers in Multan and other parts of south Punjab observed complete strike and boycotted courts proceedings on Thursday to press the government for the reinstatement of all judges including deposed chief justice, Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.

In Multan the High Court Bar Association (HCBA) and District Bar Association (DBA) held a joint meeting, which was largely attended by the lawyers. Addressing the meeting Mr. Mahmood Ashraf Khan President HCBA, Mr. Najaf Ali Chavan President DBA, ex-senator Rafiq Rijwana, Malik Haider Usman, Mr. Mazhar Jamil Qureshi, Mr. Riaz Latifi and Mr. Shams-ul-Qamar Khatak demanded of the government to immediately reinstate all judges including Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.

They said that the entire legal fraternity and the nation were proud of Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry who had got 'Freedom Award' from the Howard University. They said that Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry was also granted life membership by the New York Bar Association, which was the biggest bar in the world. He said that America had recognised the services rendered by Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry for independence of judiciary and rule of law in the country.

They said that lawyers could never accept Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar as CJP and they demanded that Mr. Dogar be held accountable. The lawyers also greeted Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on receiving freedom award and also distributed sweets on this occasion. The lawyers also took out a rally and marched on Nusrat Road up to SP Chowk. Meanwhile, Mr. Mahmood Ashraf Khan President, Mr. Naveed Rana General Secretary of the HCBA left here for Rawalpindi to receive Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry who is scheduled to arrive at Chaklala Airport at 7am today (Friday).
