LAHORE: The Pakistan Lawyers’ Forum (PLF) (Punjab chapter) and the Lahore High Court Bar Association observed a ‘Black Day’ on Monday (November 3). The two forums called for the reinstatement of all sacked judges, including former chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, urging lawyers to adopt “constitutional ways” in their struggle for the restoration of the sacked judiciary. PLF leaders, including president Mian Muhammad Jehangir, Justice (r) Malik Saeed Hassan, Justice (r) Sharif Hussain Bukhari and Justice (r) Zahid Hussain Bukhari; and Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) members Kazim Khan, Aamir Jalil Siddiqui, Shahid Mahmood Bhatti and Khawar Mahmood Khattana issued a joint statement in support of the Black Day. The PLF leaders demanded that all post-November 3, 2007, steps taken by former president General (r) Pervez Musharraf be declared null and void. They urged lawyer leaders to adopt constitutional ways, and not confrontation, for the reinstatement of all sacked judges. They also urged lawyers to come forward and strengthen democracy in the country.
