CJP Iftikhar to visit DG Khan tomorrow.

DERA GHAZI KHAN: The Dera Bar Association, political parties and civil society have made elaborate efforts to accord a historic reception to chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on his arrival here on February 25.

Banners, portraits and hoardings have been displayed on the route from the airport to the District Courts where the deposed chief justice will address a gathering. He will administer oath to the newly-elected office-bearers of various Tehsil and district bar associations.

More than 10 reception camps have been set up at various locations on the route from where the convoy of the deposed chief justice is scheduled to pass. The PML-N, the Jamaat-e-Islami, the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf and the Jamiat Ahle Hadith are also making arrangements for the reception besides mobilising the people. The People’s Lawyers Forum has assured the District Bar Association of its participation in the gathering.

According to the schedule, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry will arrive at the Dera Ghazi Khan airport at 2:30 pm. Supreme Court Bar Association President Ali Ahmed Kurd, Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan, Justice (retd) Tariq Mehmood, Munir A Malik and other lawyers’ leaders will accompany him.

Talking to journalists, District Bar Association President Muhammad Azhar Tirmizi said that thousands of lawyers, political workers and civil society members would welcome the deposed chief justice and he would be brought to the District Courts in a large procession.

He said reception camps were being set up at Tractors Factory by Sardar Hasnain Khosa, at Gaddai by Malik Saeed Jarh, at Bridge Dot by Hafiz Abdul Kareem of the Jamiat Ahle Hadith, at College Chowk by Faheem Changwani of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and at Traffic Chowk by the PML-N. He added that camps would be established at Grain Market Chowk, Kalma Chowk and Ghanta Ghar Bazaar. He said traditional Balochi dance, fireworks and horse dance would be the features of the reception while rose petals weighing over 10 maunds would also be showered on the convoy.

Tirmizi said they had made their own security arrangements, adding scanning gates would be installed and a heavy contingent of police would be deployed at the entrance of the District Courts. He said they would hand over the stage to the district administration on February 24. Seating arrangements have been made for over 40,000 people, he said, adding the stage would be set up on the District Courts Road and the entire area would be sealed for security reasons.
