Judges to meet anytime soon.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Nasirul Mulk on Thurs-day remarked that a meeting of judges will be summoned regarding execution of death penalty in terrorism-related cases. The Chief Justice gave these remarks during his visit to Peshawar High Court to attend a condolence reference for the victims of the Peshawar massacre.

Talking to media persons outside Lady Reading Hospital where he enquired about the health of children injured in the Peshawar school attack, former Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry remarked that the lifting of a moratorium on death sentences will help in controlling criminal activity in the country. He said that despite mercy appeals of about 400 convicts had been dismissed, such cases were still pending. Iftikhar Chaudhry said that there was already no ban on the execution of capital punishment in the country. He said an ordinance issued during the tenure of the PPP-led government has already expired.

"There was already no ban on death penalty in Pakistan, so it's the responsibility of the government to ensure an early implementation of capital punishment," he said. Earlier, addressing a condolence reference for the victims of the Peshawar massacre held by Peshawar High Court, Former Chief Justice of Pakistan, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry termed the moratorium on death penalty the government's negligence. The former chief justice expressed hope that the army will carry out an effective action against those elements involved in the brutal terrorist attack.
