Chief Justice Mr. Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry Born to a lower middle class
family in the western city of Quetta in December 12, 1948, he studied law at the
local university and started a legal practice in Quetta in 1974. He tried his hand at all fields of law; civil, criminal, tax, revenue and, at a
later stage, constitutional matters. He qualified for legal practice at the
Supreme Court in 1985. In 1989, the Balochistan provincial government appointed him as its advocate
general, and the next year he became a judge of the Balochistan High Court. He became the chief justice of Balochistan High Court in April 1999 and was
elevated to the Supreme Court in February 2000. On June 30 2005 he was appointed
as the chief justice of Pakistan. On 9th March 2007 he was effectively suspended by the military ruler Gen. Pervez
Musharraf on misconduct charges on March 09, 2007. He is currently under effective
house arrest. It was the first time in the history of Pakistan that a Supreme
court chief justice was suspended due charges of misuse of power. Chaudhry was
famous in taking actions against government level corruption which includes the
Pakistan Steel Mills case.After four month struggle, He reinstated on 20th July.2007 by The Supreme Court of
Pakistan.And then again he got suspended due to imposed Emergency Law which pushed by Gen.
Pervaiz Musharaf on all Pakistanis but still every one consider Mr. Justice
Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry as The Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry of the
Islamic State "Pakistan".
