Lawyers, political workers scuffle as sacked CJ arrives.

LAHORE: Lawyers and political workers scuffled during events to welcome sacked chief justice (CJ) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. There were also reports of baton-charging by police officials. Chaudhry was accorded official protocol on his arrival at the Lahore airport. Political workers and civil society activists were present at the airport to welcome him. Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Ali Kurd and former SCBA president Aitzaz Ahsan were among those who received the sacked chief justice. The sacked CJ was escorted to the High Court in a bullet-proof car, while Elite Force, Bomb Disposal Squad and Fire Brigade vehicles also accompanied the motorcade. The police had placed obstacles, but the political workers succeeded to cross them and reached the lounge. Meanwhile, several lawyers and political workers who were chanting slogans against the federal government sustained minor injuries when the Airport Security Force (ASF) baton-charged them. Four lawyers received injuries to their heads, and the flags of political parties were torn in the scuffle. online
