Time has run out for talks with Govt on the restoration of judiciary: Ali Ahmad Kurd.

MULTAN: Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) president Ali Ahmad Kurd has said time has run out for talks between government and lawyers on the matters of restoration of deposed chief justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and independence of judiciary and warned if deposed chief justice and judiciary are not restored till March, 19 then lawyers long march will be ahead .

Ali Ahmad Kurd said this while High Court Bar Association here Tuesday. High Court Bar president Mehmood Khan and other office bearers were also present on the occasion.

“There is no need to hold talks now as both Asif Ali Zardari and Nawaz Sharif had acknowledged our one point demand in Murree declaration and both had signed an agreement to implement this demand.” he added. He asked Pakistan Bar Council to remain within its legal parameters and not to take illegal steps. Suspension of lawyers by Pakistan bar council was illegal, he underlined.

Parliament was supreme and it could summon chief justice of Pakistan in personal matter, he held.

Supreme Court had already given verdict with regard to case of son of deposed chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry,

He parried the question about Marian Nawaz daughter of Mian Nawaz Sharif.

Advisors of the government and its ministers were misguiding it by giving wrong advice, he said. “ We were of the view new government would not accept wrong advice of its advisors and would take positive decisions but it did not do so. Therefore, we are forced to launch movement”, he remarked.

Lawyers want rule of law and independence of judiciary; he said adding there can be no development without it.

Responding to a question about post Mumbai attacks situation he said “we are keeping a strict watch over the prevailing situation and we stand besides the people and armed forces to defend our motherland.

Government should withdraw troops from Balochistan and FATA, as this was critical for national reconciliation, he stressed, adding that Army was losing its credibility and dignity by pitching itself against its own people.
