Govt axes Sindh Police chief over Karachi attack.

KARACHI: Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has ordered the Sindh chief secretary to issue a notification regarding suspension of all police officers concerned from the rank of SSP to SHO in connection with Karachi’s Abbas Town bomb attack. When the three-member bench of the apex court headed by chief justice started the proceedings of suo motu notice of Abbas Town tragedy at the court’s Karachi Registry on Wednesday, the counsel for the Sindh government, Anwar Mansoor Khan, and Sindh Advocate General Abdul Fatah Malik apprised the bench that the Sindh IGP and Additional IGP have been repatriated to the federal government by the Sindh chief minister. The counsel apprised the bench that a judicial inquiry has been ordered by the government into the Abbas Town incident. The bench expressed dissatisfaction over the reports submitted by the police and Rangers on the bomb blasts. The bench called for a detailed report from the Sindh Rangers director general about the incident and actions taken by them following the tragedy. The bench remarked that no action was taken against the police officers concerned on their negligence until the CJP took suo motu notice. The chief justice also directed the administration to provide all-out help and assistance to the victims of the attack. The bench will resume proceedings in the case tomorrow.
